Brief history of the Atyrau river port

Regular inland waterway between Uralsk and Guryev was opened in 1916.

The river port was opened on the Ural right shore in Guryev city in 1926, and with navigation in 1927 regular river transportations have started on the river section Ural Guryev – Uralsk.

Guryev shipping agency of the State Caspian Shipping Company was established on July 1, 1929 on the basis of the river port.

Guryev directorate of Ural-Caspian Shipping Company was established on February 5, 1931.

In 1964 Guryev river port separated from Ural Shipping Company and became independent enterprise. Equipment of the river port with load lifting machinery has started.

In 1992, Guryev river port was reorganized into a joint-stock company "Atyrauozenporty".

In 2008 there was a change in the minority shareholders in the joint stock company. Operations on modernization and equipment of the port infrastructure began.

Complete reconstruction of port facilities was carried out in 2009-2010. Berth walls, infrastructure objects, auxiliary buildings and facilities were built anew; life support system was completely refurbished.

In 2011, JSC "Atyrauozenporty" and "ISKER" consortium at their own expense with support of local executive bodies, hoisted 7 sunken ships from the waters of the Ural River adjacent to the port quay wall, which allowed not only to improve navigation in the Ural River, but significantly reduced environmental hazard in the Ural river basin.

Upon resuming its work after the reconstruction, the port together with the "ISKER" Consortium and its partners, completed the contract for fabrication, assembly and delivery of 12 modular buildings for marine complex of Kashagan oil field. As a result of this project, large modules with total weight of 1893 tons were shipped on 6 self-propelled barges from port berths to the address of the "D" island of Kashagan oil field. Starting this year works on regular delivery of materials and equipment for "Agip" company contractors performing construction and development of the Kashagan oil field on artificial islands began.
